MFC Friends and Family, I'm asking a huge favor. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is scary for us all. I know and understand that many of you are out of work and it is an uncertain time for everyone. It is definitely a scary time to be pregnant. I live in NJ, where we are heavily affected by Covid-19. There are many things happening to laboring women in hospitals in my area right now. A few of these include: having to labor while wearing a mask. Breathing is a crucial part of a vaginal delivery and I can't fathom having to wear a mask while doing this. Some mothers are having their babies kept from them after birth until they are released from the hospital (this can mean that baby is without mother for 2-3 DAYS immediately from birth). This time period is crucial for a connection to be formed and for mom and baby to adjust to breastfeeding. All hospitals have limited attendants in the delivery room to only one, aside from the woman giving birth, and some are not letting anyone attend the birth, meaning I could be delivering my baby all alone. Of course another negative factor of having a hospital birth during this time is the risk of mom and/or baby contracting Covid-19 from a doctor or nurse and then bringing it home to the rest of my family. I am fortunate to be a great candidate for home birth and have been doing all the necessary research. I do have great health insurance, but the only midwife I've found currently is not covered by my insurance, which means I would have to pay her entire fee out of pocket by the time I am 37weeks. Her fee is $6000 and this includes pre-natal care, a water birth in my home, and post natal care for myself and the baby up to 6 weeks after birth. This also saves us from having to leave the house and go to a hospital before and after birth, avoiding any risk of coming into contact with Covid-19. I know this is a large amount, and I havn't been consistently active on MFC for a long time. This amount is literally double what I've earned on MyFreeCams in the last 12 months. (I am willing to show proof of this if needed) Being able to give birth at home would give me and my family so much peace of mind and would ensure that I have the freedom to labor and give birth just as I want to, without being rushed or pressured by hospital staff.
