A couple of years ago, I had jaw joint surgery (those who've known me for a while probably remember it). After the surgery, the protective tissue above my eardrum shifted, and at some point, a small remnant of that protective tissue collapsed. Now I need to have this protective tissue restored because it's interfering with my life. I avoid exposing my ears to wind and water. But the most distressing thing the doctor told me was that my ear will lose its hearing if I don't have surgery within the next six months.
