I remember when I was 18 and google searched my cam username for the first time, shocked, I discovered that my stream had been screen recorded and spread across the internet on random websites with Xs in the URLs.Ā Almost 10 years later, my art practice is now mostly screen recording and screenshots.Ā I want to think more about the impacts of screen "grabbing" and "capturing",,,,,,While feeling simultaneously frustrated by my lack of control over my own image/online presence and also mesmerized by the surreal world of usernames/profile pictures online buyers use, Iāve decided to start collecting them the way many of them have been collecting me. I'm thinking about the motivations behind the existence of these profiles.Ā Admittedly, I know the extra amount of e_f_f_0_r_t I put into my online XXX presence is unnecessary (nudes will do just fine), I can't help but feel a huge desire to customize my online presence everywhere always all the time.Ā On all the XXX websites I'm on, I always customize my profile and modify my experience as much as I can.Ā Whenever I see buyers putting this same level of effort into their own profiles (that they appear to not make money with) I feel connected to them, in our strange encounters on these hidden XXXX websites, as ourselves, wrapped in digital cryptic personas.
